Bone Grafting
Bone Grafting: Laying the Foundation for a Lasting Smile
Why Bone Grafting is Essential
Dental implants require a solid foundation in the jawbone to stay securely in place. If the bone has weakened or decayed, it may not be able to support the implant properly. This is where bone grafting comes in. By adding bone material to the affected areas, we can restore the strength and structure of your jaw, making it capable of holding dental implants firmly for years to come.
Bone grafting allows patients who may not have been ideal candidates for implants due to bone loss to still achieve a beautiful and functional smile. This procedure is especially beneficial for those who have suffered from tooth loss, gum disease, or other conditions that lead to bone deterioration.
How We Do It
At the Newport Dental Institute, our bone grafting process is guided by biomimetics—our commitment to preserving the natural structure of your mouth as much as possible. One of the key ways we achieve this is through autografting, a technique in which we use your own tissue to aid in the bone regeneration process. Around 70% of the grafted material is harvested from your body, combined with a special bone morphogenetic protein that promotes healing and bone growth.
In cases where vertical height needs to be restored, we use a titanium mesh tray to help shape the bone. This tray is carefully molded to fit the unique structure of your jaw and placed beneath the gum tissue. If a second surgical site is not desirable, bone can be procured from a tissue bank which is federally controlled and predictable to be healthy and safe. This technique has been used for the last 20+ years where large volumes of are required to rebuild badly resorbed Dental arches.
Over the course of several months, the tray and bone grafting material work together to form new bone. Once the bone is solid and stable, Dr. Nazir can confidently move forward with placing your dental implants, knowing they will have the support they need to remain secure.
The Importance of Bone Grafting
Not all dental practices offer bone grafting, often due to the complexity of the procedure and the specialized training it requires. However, at Newport Dental Institute, we are equipped with the expertise, tools, and technology needed to perform bone grafting effectively and with minimal discomfort. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that your dental implants are built on a foundation that will last, eliminating the risk of complications from a weak or compromised jawbone.
By addressing bone loss before placing implants, we greatly reduce the chances of implant failure. With a strong foundation in place, your implants are more likely to stay firmly anchored, ensuring that your new smile will not only look great but also function properly for years to come.
